Police Station at Kukruantumi Closed down following attacks

The Police station at Kukruantumi in the Abuakwa North Municipality has been closed down following the recent attacks on the station.

Some youth on Sunday, September 21, attacked the Kukruantumi Police Station and the barracks with stones, dubs and tried to set the building ablaze following the death of a suspect in  police custody who had been arrested for unlawful entry and stealing and was admitted at the Kukruantumi Community Hospital.

Police officers were immediately deployed to contain the situation, but their efforts were met with fierce resistance. Some members of the crowd pelted stones at the officers, escalating tensions

The Eastern Regional Police Command in a letter dated September 21, 2025 and signed by Superintendent George Peprah Mills assured the family of the deceased and other Community leaders that thorough investigations would be made into the cause of death of the suspect.

They also affirmed that the perpetrators of the attacks on the police would be arrested and brought to justice.

The police urged citizens to use lawful means to resolve issues instead of resorting to violence.
